#ROW80 update and Green Acres

Just a quickie update today because I have to clean my house. One of the things I said I’d do when I started making decent money as a writer was hire someone to clean my house a couple of timesΒ a month – well, the cleaning lady was supposed to start last week, but she got the flu, so my house is extra disastrous. I’m pretty sure the second I clean, she’ll call to reschedule. It’s the way of my world. πŸ™‚

I’m not entirely sure of my word count this week – it’s around 2.5K. I tried doing my timer writing and writing without editing and…I sat down yesterday and didn’t time myself and started rewriting/cutting Unfavorable from the beginning…it’s not finished, but the first scene is a lot better and I got some enjoyment out of the process. Ha! My brain just really wants me to let it fix things in the moment. I keep working to retrain it, but she’s a stubborn bitch.

Another thing my brain is, is super obsessive. I had a dream that I bought a farm and then when I woke up I looked up farms for sale in my area and there is a huge one for a good price nearby. (And by good price I mean not a million dollars – it’s not something that I can actually afford.) Anyway, I drove by it. Then I drove up to the house and checked it out. Today I’m going to the open house and then taking the kids over to a friend’s farm down the road a bit so we can see how they manage it.

I have a hard time letting ideas go and I’ve learned to let myself just be a crazy person and dream about them until the last possible moment when my rational side kicks in and says, “hey, it ain’t gonna happen.”

It’s just thinking, right?

So, that took up some of my week too, but the farce ends today and I’ll be back to trying to figure out how to afford to put a new roof on the house I already own – which takes up way less creative brain space than dreaming about being a lavender farmer.

Every time I say quick post, I babble endlessly.

Enjoy your Sunday!

  1. I would love to hire a cleaning lady, but my OH would probably scrub down the place before they arrived out of embarrassment. Maybe I should just pretend to hire one. πŸ˜€

As for the farm idea, I do this all of the time. I’m an obsessive freak in general, but once an idea gets stuck in my head, I just have to ride the wave until it passes – or something else comes along. πŸ™‚ We’re looking for a house to rent at the moment, but somehow mansions with stables keeping magically opening up tabs on my laptop…

  2. Oh, don’t think I haven’t thought about where the stables would go on my lavender farm. lol

Are any of your kids obsessive? My son is just like me and sometimes I have to distract him with candy so that his brain doesn’t explode from the loop it gets on. πŸ™‚

  3. Not that this will help your brain get past this at all, but: my husband and I moved to a farm at the end of the year, and just last weekend my alpacas showed up. ALPACAS! They are the coolest thing ever, and I am loving doing the farm thing. Except the part where we’re moving into crop season, so my husband is out on the tractor until dark on a regular basis.

For a semi-farm experience without the actual farm though, you should check out the book Backyard Homestead. It gives a lot of great things you can do with only a little bit of land to help be more self-sufficient and kinda farm-like.

  4. I like to see you babble. LOL. That’s so funny about the farm. I can’t believe you went as far as you did, even going to the open house. I just hope you don’t dream about some giant ogre or something or our world is in big trouble. πŸ™‚

  5. Alpacas! Awesome! I will definitely check out Backyard Homestead – thanks for the rec.

  6. I have to admit to smiling about the farm dream and your subsequent actions. I wondered if all writers are obsessive because I could totally see myself doing something like that! My husband (aka Spock) would talk me out of it, of course. πŸ™‚

Good job on the word count! Best wishes with the clean house and your goals this week!
